Duties and Responsibilities

Leads, prioritizes and coordinates daily work of the Technical Writers to ensure quality, consistency and accuracy of assigned publications.

  • Processes controlled publications that are part of the companies’ manual system and prepares approved documents for submission to the FAA.
  • Performs quality control checks of issued revisions, bulletins and temporary revisions prior to FAA submission.
  • Performs certain functions of Manager, Technical Publications and Electronic Information Specialists as delegated.
  • Assists with developing training material and trains the Technical Writers.
  • Provides input for continuous process improvement.
  • Makes recommendations for improvement of functionality, standardization and formatting publications.
  • Maintains proficiency in publishing software used by the department.
  • Provides technical leadership to team and department members.  Leads through example; monitors, influences and trains others.  Provides input to director on performance reviews and helps to identify development needs.
  • Performs various other duties as assigned.




The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.



  • Bachelor's degree (B.A. /B.S.) in Journalism or Technical Writing with at least 1 year of experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Framemaker and SharePoint.
  • Ability to provide work direction and training to the team.



Experience with XML and SGML.  Experience in a lead or supervisory role.


             Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions,
             and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively
             before groups of customers or employees of organization.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.



Makes day to day decisions used to support strategic direction.  Decisions often require some thought and are somewhat structured.  Decisions tend to be short term and usually moderate cost.

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds under 35% of the time.

Travel up to 10% of the time, including overnight stays.
